CANADA – The proposed resolutions for Lutheran Church–Canada’s (LCC) upcoming 2014 convention are now available online.

The resolutions are available as part of the first edition of Today’s Business, a booklet which builds on the larger Convention Workbook made available online a month ago. The workbook included a number of categories in Sections A-F. Today’s Business picks up where the workbook left off, starting with Section G.

Section F of the original workbook listed all the overtures received from congregations, boards, commissions, and other authorized groups. In mid-April, the Resolutions Committees met in Winnipeg to process these overtures, compiling the resolutions found in the edition of Today’s Business made available today. These resolutions are the committees’ recommendations on how the convention might handle the matters addressed in the overtures. They may be adopted, amended, or even turned down by the convention: if you are attending the convention, it is your responsibility to study these resolutions in advance.

During the course of the convention, some resolutions may be changed because of the discussions we have, or because of instructions the assembly gives to the appropriate Resolutions Committee. For this reason, during convention there will be further editions of Today’s Business each morning, providing the latest draft of resolutions as they are revised.

Those wishing to comment on the proposed resolutions prior to convention are reminded of the deadlines put forward in synod’s bylaws. “Responses to the tentative resolutions contained in the first issue of Today’s Business shall be submitted in triplicate to the chairman of the appropriate floor committee at least one week prior to the Convention. All floor committees shall meet at the convention site at a time prior to the opening of the Convention to review such responses and reconsider their tentative resolutions accordingly.”
