Federal government to match flood relief donations
The Canadian government announced Sunday it will match donations made between August 2 and September 12, which support relief work in flood-ravaged Pakistan. Canadian Lutheran World Relief (CLWR), Lutheran Church–Canada’s (LCC) international development and relief agency, will apply for the matching grants as the organization launches an appeal to its supporters.
Donations collected through www.lutheranchurchcanada.ca/donate support the work of CLWR as it cooperates with ACT Alliance, a Geneva-based network of 142 church-related relief agencies.
“Everyday the news from Pakistan becomes worse,” observed Rev. Dr. Leonardo Neitzel, LCC’s social ministry executive. “We thank God for agencies like CLWR who can work internationally to bring comfort to those who are suffering.”
Reports from Pakistan tell of flood waters continuing south, washing away homes, livestock, and crops. “When people lose everything, including a way to support their families, it is tragic,” Dr. Neitzel said. “We need to let them know we in Canada care about them in the name of Jesus.”
