Lutherans honour teaching excellence

Port Coquitlam, B.C. – Canada’s Lutheran Teachers Association (LTA) awarded its 2010 Excellence in Lutheran Education award to Susan Eisner, grade two teacher at Hope Lutheran Christian School in Port Coquitlam, B.C. The presentation took place during the association’s annual meeting mid-August.

The award highlights the service of a Lutheran educator who demonstrates a strong commitment to serving the Lord; is active in local the community as well as Lutheran community; committed to excellence and meeting the social, emotional, spiritual, and cognitive needs of children and families; equipped and willing to profess and teach Christian faith from a Lutheran perspective; and is a member of the LTA, and other professional associations. 

Ms. Eisner joined the staff of Hope in 2002. In addition to her excellent teaching skills, she is active in various programs at her church and many Bible Studies and community events in the Port Coquitlam area. 

Michael Schiemann, principal at Hope described Ms. Eisner as a “very caring, loving, and dedicated teacher.” He said that although her students come from varied backgrounds she has the ability to tailor her instruction to meet their needs individually. “This approach ensures students have opportunities to succeed in their various subjects.” 

Across Canada, congregations and school societies of Lutheran Church–Canada operate 12 elementary and high schools and 26 preschool programs. The church body also established Concordia University College of Alberta in Edmonton which is responsible for preparing teachers for Lutheran schools. It also operates two post-graduate institutions, Concordia Lutheran Theological Seminary, St. Catharines and Concordia Lutheran Seminary, Edmonton.
