2019 Advent Devotions
ONLINE – The season of Advent begins on December 1. Christians seeking to spend more time in devotion and prayer during this period will benefit from free, newly released devotionals from Lutheran Association of Missionaries and Pilots (LAMP) and Lutheran Hour Ministries (LHM).
LHM’s 2019 Advent devotional is written by Dr. Kari Vo and is entitled Call His Name Jesus. “During the Christmas season, we focus our thoughts on that moment in time when God became one of us,” LHM explains. “This miracle of miracles—this most unlikely story begins with the Christ Child—God in the flesh—who was born poorly, humbly, vulnerably into this world of sin and darkness.” It’s a drama that concludes with Christ “again poor, humble, and vulnerable, as He bears the awful weight of our sins on the cross at Golgotha.”
LHM’s devotional series is available in English and French from the website of the Lutheran Laymen’s League of Canada here. The same material (in English and Spanish) can be received as a daily email and listened to as a podcast read by Rev. Dr. Michael Zeigler, Speaker of the Lutheran Hour at LHM’s website here.
LAMP’s 2019 Advent devotional booklet combines reflections on the Advent season with mission work in Canada’s northern regions. Devotionals are written by a number of different missionaries and staff with LAMP. “What a privilege it has been to share the good tidings of great joy with all people living in the northern regions,” writes LAMP Executive Director Rod Ludke. “We weave our stories of how God’s gift of our Saviour Jesus has brought hope and joy in the lives of northern friends who have been touched by the ministry of LAMP… As you join us spending time in devotion, I pray that your faith, hope, and joy will be refreshed as you celebrate the birth of our Saviour.”
You can read LAMP’s devotional booklet online or download as a pdf at LAMP’s website here.
