Change in seminary lay program will focus on arts and worship
Due to illness, Rev. Warren Steckelberg, who was scheduled to present lectures on prayer and worship, will not be able to speak at the Quest Winter 2009 series.
In his place Rev. Todd Hoeffs and Rev. Daniel Deyell will present a series “Theology of Aesthetics: Art, Liturgy, and Worship,” This course will be an opportunity for the two pastors to explore relationships and integration of art (especially the visual arts) and theology. Class attendees will have the opportunity to participate as the Quest leaders begin to develop a methodology for looking at the arts in Christian settings.
The course will be held on four consecutive Tuesday evenings, beginning January 27, and continuing February 3, 10, and 17. Classes will be held at Concordia Lutheran Seminary, Edmonton starting in the evening at 7:30 p.m.
Rev. Hoeffs is a practicing artist who was trained at Daemen College, Amherst, NY, as well as Concordia Lutheran Theological Seminary, St. Catharines, Ont., and is currently pastor at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Edmonton. Rev. Deyell studied art history at U.B.C. (Vancouver), theology at Lutheran Theological Seminary, Saskatoon, and has worked in various art organizations, and is currently at the seminary.
Registration costs $25 per person for the series. For more information check the web site or call the seminary. To register for the classes contact Sandra Esperanza at the seminary, or 780-474-1468, ext. 229.
