Virtual vs In-Person: LCC communications team to host webinar called “Both/And”

ONLINE – Lutheran Church–Canada (LCC)’s Communications Team will be holding an online event on Wednesday, July 8, 2020 at 4 p.m. PDT / 6 p.m. CDT / 7 p.m. EDT to facilitate discussion, and offer guidance, for LCC congregations looking to maintain some level of online ministry even into the eventual “Re-opening” of church doors.

In recent months, congregations have been thrust into a digital world that, for many, is unfamiliar territory. Congregations have wrestled with how to continue to proclaim God’s Word and minister to their people amid the COVID-19 pandemic and in light of government restrictions put in place for the safety of our communities. This has led to both struggle and to creativity; as well as some unexpected benefits.

Many congregations are starting to think about what “Re-Opening” will look like, and asking questions about whether or not maintaining some form of video communication or online options would be productive or beneficial. While online ministry certainly is no replacement for in-person fellowship and gathering around the Word as the body of Christ, it can be a good supplement to offer in addition to regular services.

Join LCC Communications Director, Alex Steinke, and Rev. Michael Schutz, chairman of LCC’s Committee for Communications and Technology (CCT) for a guided, interactive discussion on this topic. Steinke has been a point of contact to LCC congregations throughout the these unprecedented times with regards to communications, bringing her experience in digital media production. Schutz has 20+ years of both church work and audio-visual and web experience. The congregation where he serves has been livestreaming worship and holding online Bible studies for the last few months. The hope is that together we can facilitate discussion on this topic, and offer guidance to congregations looking to maintain some level audio-visual communications going forward.
