Rev. Schutz reflects on 10th ordination anniversary
PENTICTON, B.C. – Rev. Michael Schutz is commemorating ten years as an ordained pastor in Lutheran Church–Canada this year, which he adds to 13 years of previous service as a Deacon (DPS).
Rev. Schutz has served all ten years as a pastor at Concordia Lutheran Church and School in Penticton, before which he spent four years as Concordia’s DPS. He also served First Lutheran in Kelowna and Redeemer Lutheran in Spokane, WA (LCMS) as a DPS.
Rev. Schutz has been privileged to serve within LCC in a variety of ways over his 23 years as a church worker. Most recently he was elected in 2022 as Vice-President of Synod.
Though we don’t build “marking-stone” altars in the same way as God’s people of old, it’s appropriate to mark dates and times, perhaps with the words of the old hymn in mind: “Here I raise my Ebenezer; here by Thy great help I’ve come.” This is true not only of Rev. Schutz’ service in the pastoral office. He is also marking 25 years of blessed marriage to Suzanne this fall. Moreover, the date of his ordination and installation—May 26—is the same date on which, a year later, his then-two-year-old son completed successful cancer treatments.
Rev. Schutz and Suzanne thank God for His many blessings over the years—most especially their four children—and pray that, by His grace, they may have many more years of fruitful service to Him and His Church.
Rev. Michael Schutz
