Domestic Mission Exec visits Oromo congregation

WINNIPEG – Rev. Jacob Quast has begun his work as Lutheran Church–Canada’s (LCC) new Director of Domestic Missions, with one of his first visits taking place at Shalom Oromo Lutheran Church in Winnipeg.

During service on June 17, the congregation welcomed Rev. Quast and his wife, and presented him with a Gaabi—a handwoven blanket made of raw materials. The gift of a Gaabi conveys respect and honour. The congregation also presented Rev. Quast with a Rufaa, which is worn by men of the community and those held in high esteem.

“We are excited to collaborate with Rev. Jacob Quast in our mission,” the congregation noted on social media. “We praise God for blessing us with such a wonderful day, and for bringing Rev. Quast into our church family.”

“Thank you so much for your love and warm welcome,” Rev. Quast said in response to the honour. “It is wonderful to have such amazing brothers and sisters in Christ. Thank you,Heavenly Father, for uniting us in Your Son, Jesus!”

Similar gifts were also prepared for LCC’s Director of International Missions, Rev. Mark Smith, but he was unable to attend service that day.
