Greek New Testaments needed for Nicaragua

NICARAGUA – Lutheran Church–Canada has long supported the theological education program of its partner church, the Lutheran Church Synod of Nicaragua. In keeping with that tradition, Rev. Brian Dunlop of Faith Lutheran (Desboro, Ontario) will be traveling to Nicaragua to teach a series of courses in introductory Greek, beginning in November.

“Our partner church’s pastors in Nicaragua are excited to study New Testament Greek, in order to enhance their biblical exegesis and preaching,” explains Rev. Dunlop. “But they need Greek New Testaments in order to do so.”

Rev. Dunlop hopes to provide each student with a copy of the Greek New Testament—a resource otherwise hard to come by for the students. Concordia Lutheran Theological Seminary (St. Catharines, Ontario) has donated fifteen new and used New Testaments for the class, but more are still needed.

“We are short by ten copies,” Rev. Dunlop notes. He’s hoping the shortfall can be made up by Lutheran Church–Canada members checking their libraries for any extra copies they may have. “Canadian Lutherans have an opportunity here to make a meaningful impact on the church’s ministry in Nicaragua—simply by donating that extra copy of the Greek New Testament sitting on the shelf!”

In order to save on shipping costs, the plan is to collect the New Testaments during June’s synodical convention in Vancouver.
