Bach concert at Mount Olive kicks off 70th anniversary celebrations

REGINA – A Bach organ concert on February 18, 2023, was the first event in the festivities for the 70th anniversary of Mount Olive Lutheran Church in Regina.

Rev. Paulo Brum, master of music and pastor at New Beginnings Lutheran in Regina, brought an international-class concert featuring some of Bach’s most known works. The set list included the “Aria of the 4th String” adapted for organ, “Toccata in D Minor,” and a Brazilian seasoning to Bach with the “Toccatina for Flutes.”

Towards the end of the concert, the choirs from Mount Olive and New Beginnings, conducted by Rev. Lucas Andre Albrecht (from Mount Olive), performed three pieces with Bach arrangements, accompanied by Rev. Brum on the organ: “Jesus, Joy of Man’s Desire,” “Wake, Awake the Night is Flying,” and “A Mighty Fortress”. The emcee for the event was Rod Gellner.

At the end, the concert attendees, almost 200 people, came out of the church giving thanks to God and with words of congratulations to musician Rev. Brum, the choirs of both congregations, and the 70th Anniversary Committee for organizing the event.

In 2023, Mount Olive Lutheran Church is celebrating 70 years of blessings. The church was founded on March 9, 1953, in the then-north area of the city. Different events are scheduled throughout 2023 to mark the occasion, including a 70th anniversary service planned for October 15, with guest preacher Rev. Timothy Teuscher, president of Lutheran Church–Canada.
