Camp Lutherland is 90 years young!
QU’APPELLE, Sask. – Camp Lutherland, northwest of Fort Qu’Appelle, is an oasis of beauty in the Qu’Appelle Valley along Pasqua Lake, in the heart of Treaty 4 Territory. It is acres of green grass, rolling hills and a calm lakeshore that was purchased 90 years ago for a few hundred dollars.
Camp Lutherland offers a 14-room, two-storey lodge (each room sleeps five) with kitchenette, bathrooms/showers, and lounge areas; a Kitchen Hall (seats 150); a Craft Hall; an old Beach Kitchen Hall with a working walk-in fridge; a multi-toilet/shower/change house building; two original unused bunkhouses from 1955; a chapel (seats 60); and a beachside fire pit.
Camp Lutherland is a Christian retreat centre that provides a camp experience to kids and youth, and rental facilities for family occasions (outdoor weddings were popular the past few years) and church/secular groups. The camp offers “diamond in the rough” camping to Lutheran Church–Canada members in the summer during the week ($25/night from Monday to Thursday).
This year, the camp hosted a dinner for the Central District Lutheran Women’s Missionary League-Canada (LWMLC) Convention, a fundraiser supper at Mount Olive Lutheran in Regina, a garage sale/canteen, two weeks of camp for kids and youth, and a popular Fall Supper.
A wonderful thing happened last July when the grandchildren of the author of the camp’s 75th anniversary history book came up from the United States and brought their children to camp! The grandchildren who attended camp long ago were amazed at the modern buildings, the beautiful scenery, and were so appreciative of the continuing mission of looking after the spirituality of God’s children!
Camp 2023 is planned for the weeks of July 9 (kids) and 16 (youth). For any inquiries, contact the camp online through Facebook or the website, by email at clutherland@gmail.com, or by mail at P.O. Box 186, Fort Qu’Appelle, SK, S0G 1S0.
