Church prepares to receive new workers

WINNIPEG – Members of Lutheran Church–Canada’s Council of Presidents (COP) met in Winnipeg, April 26 to finalize the placement of six new pastoral candidates, seven vicars, four directors of Parish Services and two Lutheran teachers.

The council first met with representatives of LCC’s seminaries and Concordia University College March 26 to consider the needs of the congregations and schools requesting candidates and matching those needs with the gifts, talents and experience of the men and women who have been preparing for full-time church work. Serving on the council are Lutheran Church–Canada’s president, Rev. Robert Bugbee; three vice-presidents: Rev. Daryl Solie (1st VP); Rev. Robert Krestick (2nd VP) and Rev. Thomas Kruesel (3rd VP) and LCC’s three district presidents: (Rev. Don Schiemann, ABC (COP chairman); Rev. Thomas Prachar, Central; Rev. Paul Zabel (East).

The placements will be announced during three special events. Three pastoral candidates from Concordia Lutheran Seminary, Edmonton will be placed during a Sacred Convocation, Friday, May 7 at 7 p.m. (MDT) in the Tegler Student Centre on the campus of Concordia University College and webcast at www.concordiasem.ab.ca/CLSTV.php .

An additional four candidates from Concordia Lutheran Theological Seminary, St. Catharines will receive their placements at Grace Lutheran Church, St. Catharines, Saturday, May 8 at 4 p.m. (EDT) and webcast at www.lutheranchurchcanada.ca/video .

The final Call Service is for new members of LCC’s diaconate. Four candidates for director of Parish Services and two Lutheran teachers will receive their placements Sunday, May 16 at 11 a.m. (MDT) at Bethel Lutheran Church in Sherwood Park, Alberta.

“This is always a time of great excitement and anticipation for those receiving placements, and great joy for the Church as it receives these gifts from God who will serve His people,” noted LCC president, Rev. Robert Bugbee. “Please keep these men and women in your prayers.”

Ten congregations requested pastoral candidates; eight applied to host a third-year seminary student on a one-year mentoring vicarage; five asked for a director of Parish Services; three requested a director of Parish Services intern and two schools sought the services of a Lutheran teacher.
