Cobourg reverend sets world record with house pull
COBOURG, Ontario – Reverend Kevin Fast has set another world record.
Rev. Fast, a pastor of Lutheran Church–Canada, who currently holds the world record for pulling a 416,229-pound aircraft in 2009, set a new Guinness World Record for pulling a house more than 11.95 metres in one minute and one second. The event, in partnership with Habitat For Humanity Northumberland, was held on Queen Street in Cobourg on Sept. 18 and helped to raise funds and awareness of the need for affordable housing in Northumberland.
Advertising sponsorship raised almost $65,000 for the event and another $950 was donated on the day.
Rev. Fast got off to a slow start on the pull, but quickly recovered as the assembled crowd chanted and cheered for him.
“I wasn’t going to give up until I had nothing left,” he said moments after the pull. “The support was great. It helped me to pull harder when I heard their support. That’s why I didn’t give up.”
Peter Katcher of Pollard the Mover in Lindsay donated the company’s services to transport the house from Roseneath to Cobourg and back again.
Guinness adjudicator Carey Low was on hand to verify the pull.
“It was spectacular,” Mr. Low said of Rev. Fast’s effort.
