UPDATED: First calls for seminary grads, placements for vicars and deacon

cls-clts-squareCANADA -Lutheran Church–Canada’s (LCC) two seminaries have celebrated their annual call services, announcing the first calls of pastoral graduates.

Concordia Lutheran Seminary in Edmonton held its Sacred Convocation ceremony on May 26, 2016, during which time it presented two graduates with their Master of Divinity degrees and one received his first call. Rev. Hoveland has been called to serve Zion Lutheran Church in Golden Spike, Alberta. Rev. Oleksiy Navrotskyy, a missionary for LCC in Ukraine, also received a Master of Divinity degree during the event. He will be returning to Ukraine to serve with LCC’s partner church, the Synod of Evangelical Lutheran Churches in Ukraine.

Concordia Lutheran Theological Seminary (St. Catharines, Ontario) held its Annual Call Service on May 30, 2016. At that time, two pastoral students were commended for ministry in the church: Rev. Milton Lam and Rev. Kurt Schultz. Rev. Lam has been called to serve Christ Lutheran Church in Timmons, Ontario, while Rev. Kurt Schultz’s placement is pending.

One diaconal candidate also received her first placement during the Edmonton seminary’s convocation ceremony. Deacon Kaitlin Schmitz, who graduated from Concordia University College of Alberta in 2014, was placed to Faith Lutheran Church in Grand Prairie, Alberta.

During their services, LCC’s two seminaries also announced the vicarage placements of five students:

  • Kirk Bradford (CLTS) to Family of God Lutheran (LCMS), (Detroit, Michigan)
  • Scott Brayall (CLS) to Redeemer Lutheran (Didsbury, Alberta)
  • Kai Buck to (CLS) Our Saviour Lutheran (Dryden, Ontario)
  • Andrew MacDonald (CLS) to Trinity Evangelical Lutheran (Winkler, Manitoba)
  • Will Rose (CLS) to Good Shepherd Lutheran (Valleyview, Alberta)
