Gene Veith keynote speaker for CCSCF’s third annual conference

EDMONTON – The Canadian Centre for Scholarship and the Christian Faith is preparing for its third annual conference. This year’s theme is “The Fine Arts and the Christian Faith.” The conference will be held March 21-22 at Concordia University College of Alberta (CUCA) in Edmonton.

The keynote speaker for this year’s event is Dr. Gene Veith who will speak on “The Arts, the Imagination, and the Christian Life.” The lecture is free to the general public and will be held at the Tegler Centre of CUCA at 2:00 p.m., March 21.

Dr. Veith is Provost and Professor Literature at Patrick Henry College in Virgina. He is the author of 18 books on topics involving Christianity and culture, classical education, literature, and the arts. His books include Postmodern Times, The State of the Arts, The Spirituality of the Cross, God at Work: Your Christian Vocation in All of Life, Modern Fascism, Classical Education, and Loving God with All Your Mind.

Previously, Dr. Veith served as the Culture Editor of World Magazine. He served 19 years as Professor of English at Concordia University Wisconsin, including six years as Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences. He has also taught at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College and has been a visiting professor at the Estonian Institute of Humanities, Gordon-Conwell, Regent College (Vancouver), and Wheaton College (Illinois). In addition, he also serves as the director of the Cranach Institute at Concordia Theological Seminary in Ft. Wayne (Indiana). He has been a Fellow at the Capital Research Center and the Heritage Foundation.

In addition to Dr. Veith’s lecture, the conference will feature a performance of Hildegard’s musical morality play Ordo Virtutum (“Order of the Virtues”) performed by The Ordo Collective at 7:oo p.m, March 21 in the Tegler Centre, with reception to follow in the Glass Lounge.
