Jennifer Jade Kerr nominated for Covenant Awards and Western Canadian Music Awards
BURLINGTON, Ontario– The Gospel Music Association of Canada (GMA Canada) has announced the nominations for the 2013 Covenant Awards, and Lutheran Church–Canada’s (LCC) own Jennifer Jade Kerr is among those nominated for Female Vocalist of the Year.
The news comes a few months after the announcement that her album “Permission to be Broken” has also been nominated for the 2013 Western Canadian Music Awards (WCMA) in the Spiritual Recording of the Year category.
“These two nominations are making this Fall very exciting for me,” says Kerr. “The Covenant nomination is a vote of confidence from my peers in the Christian music community, and the WCMA nomination indicates that the style and production quality of the album is relevant outside of the Church. I have always felt called to make music that can connect with people no matter who they are or where they hear it, and I’m still amazed with how God works through the songs. I feel like I can move forward with new vigour, knowing there’s a context for what I love to do.”

This is Kerr’s second nomination for the Covenant Awards, after her album “Permission to Be Broken” was nominated for Pop/Contemporary Album of the Year in 2012. The nomination for the Western Canadian Music Awards marks Kerr’s first with the WCMA.
The Western Canadian Music Awards will take place October 6 in Calgary, Alberta. The Covenant Awards will take place a month later on November 6 in Burlington, Ontario.
Kerr is currently on a tour of British Columbia with Kelti Malone, another LCC singer. (The tour comes to a close September 29 in Vancouver. See here for details). Earlier this spring, the two toured together in Alberta and Saskatchewan. Last year, in the lead-up to the 2012 Covenant Awards, Kelti Malone and Jennifer Jade Kerr did their first joint tour, performing concerts for two weeks in southern Ontario.
Jennifer Jade Kerr is Director for Youth Ministries at First Lutheran Church in Kelowna, B.C. She has played concerts and led music at numerous Lutheran events across Canada. She also spent a year touring with CREW Ministries team Saltwater.
Kerr previously won Gospel Album of the Year at the Saskatchewan Country Music Award for her 2008 album “Somehow it Always Does…” She’s also been a finalist in the Canadian Radio Star Competition and twice been a finalist in GMA Canada’s Cross Canada Talent Search.
