LCC Seminaries announce dates for this year’s Call Services
CANADA – Lutheran Church–Canada (LCC)’s two seminaries have announced dates for this year’s Call Services which will take place in person, with a live-streaming option for those unable to attend.
Concordia Lutheran Seminary (CLS – Edmonton) announced that their Sacred Convocation will take place at Grace Lutheran Church (9907 114 St. NW, Edmonton, AB) on Friday, May 26, 2023 at 7:00 p.m. MDT and will also be accessible online via their YouTube Channel. The service will include the granting of an Academic Degree and Theological Diploma for Henock Tecklermariam, and a Theological Diploma for Ephrem Gemta as a graduate of the Colloquy Program. Placements for pastoral candidates will be announced. There will be no candidates for vicarage placement this year.
CLS will honour the recipients of three awards, including: the Faith in Life award to Dwayne Cleave; the Friend of the Seminary award to Bev (and Bryan, posthumously) Adam; and the Doulas Dia Iesoun award to Rev. Roland Kubke. These awards are intended to honour church workers and laity who have served the church in particularly meaningful ways.
Concordia Lutheran Theological Seminary (CLTS – St. Catharines) announced that their annual Call Service will take place at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church (213 Linwell Rd, St. Catharines, ON) on Saturday, May 27, 2023, at 4:00 p.m. EDT. CLTS announced that they “heartily invite members of LCC, and especially friends and family of the students and award recipients, to attend this festive event.” For those who cannot attend in person, the service will be live-streamed on their YouTube Channel.
CLTS announced that, during the service, Trey Doak, Jason Gillard, and Nigel Prozenko will be certified to be called into the holy ministry and will receive their congregational placements in the service. There will be no candidates for vicarage placement this year. Other students will be recognized for their academic achievements.
CLTS has also announced that Rev. Warren Hamp, pastor of Faith Lutheran Church (Kitchener, ON) has been selected to received the Delta Chi (Servant of Christ) award, the seminary’s highest honour. Pastor Hamp graduated from CLTS in 1990 and has served LCC in a variety of ways, including as Chairman of the Commission on Theology and Church Relations and as a member of LCC’s Board of Directors.
Following the Call Services, The Canadian Lutheran will report the first calls for graduating pastors.
