LWMLC meets Mission Grant goals for 2012-2015
CANADA – Lutheran Women’s Missionary League – Canada (LWMLC) has announced that it has successfully raised funds to complete all its mission grant projects for the 2012-2015 triennium.
“I am thankful to God for each of our members and supporters across the country,” said Iris Barta, President of LWMLC. “Through their faithful giving in mite offerings, we are supporting Gospel proclamation and social ministry outreach at home in Canada as well as internationally in places like Central America, Southeast Asia, and Ukraine.”
LWMLC has a long-standing tradition of raising funds through members’ mite boxes. Members collect their change in these boxes which they subsequently bring as “mite offerings” during their regular meetings. These mission funds go to support a variety of synodical, district, and congregational programs in Canada and around the world.

- $9,000 Evangelist Deaconesses, Nicaragua

- $16,000 Concordia Seminary, Odessa, Ukraine
- $6,000 Evangelists to women and children, Thailand
- $22,000 Evangelist Deaconess, Cambodia
In addition to these projects, LWMLC has also been raising for a Mission Opportunity Fund over the past triennium. Recent dispersements from this fund have seen $5,000 distributed to Lutheran Church–Canada’s Foreign Student Fund (with the money going to support the studies of Rev. Alexey Navrotksyy); $500 to purchase medical supplies for needy families in Nicaragua mission field; $1,400 for Faith, London/Grace, Strathroy Ontario congregations for Spanish language advertising of the congregations’ Latino ministry program; $350 to Church of Hope in Guelph, Ontario for a Palm Sunday outreach event; $600 for South Asian/East Indian radio broadcast ministry in the Greater Toronto Area; $10,000 for Foothills Lutheran in Calgary for campus ministry outreach; and $5,557 to help Lutheran Church–Canada purchase theological books and resources in Spanish for Costa Rica and Nicaragua.
