Nominees for LCMS President
ST. LOUIS, Missouri – Earlier this month, The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS) announced nominees for the office of President.
The following three candidates have given consent to serve if elected President of the LCMS: current serving President, Rev. Dr. Matthew C. Harrison (1,111 nominating votes); Rev. Dr. Herbert C. Mueller, Jr. (140 nominating votes); and Rev. Dr. David. P.E. Maier (126 nominating votes).
As part of a new process, elections for President of the LCMS will take place prior to the National Convention. Four weeks before the convention takes place, the Secretary of Synod will provide two delegates from each congregation the opportunity to vote for one of the three candidates for President. Voting delegates will be those who previously represented the congregation at the last district convention, if at all possible. If no candidate receives a majority of the votes, another vote will take place.
All offices other than President will be voted on during the National Convention, which is scheduled for July 20-25 and is entitled “Baptized for this moment.” For more details on the nominees for President, and for the full list of nominees for all offices of the LCMS, please visit the LCMS’ website here.
