Prepare for a convention on line!
Not so long ago a national church convention was a remote gathering for which people waited patiently to hear or read about decisions. The Internet has changed everything.
Now, thanks to webcasts, news sites and e-mail, Lutheran Church–Canada’s national convention in Hamilton June 3-6 is an event for everyone.
Beginning at 4:30 p.m. (ET) Friday, June 3 viewers can watch the entire proceedings from the Hamilton Convention Centre. A schedule of highlights is available at www.lutheranchurchcanada.ca/synod2011 as well as a more detailed agenda. The webcast will be available at www.lutheranchurchcanada.ca/video.
“Our communication strategy is to engage members of Lutheran Church–Canada congregations in as much of the church’s life as possible,” explained Dr. Ian Adnams, LCC’s director of communications. “To webcast the entire proceedings is a blessing as everyone can watch how the church conducts business, plus enjoy the inspiration that comes with a convention gathering.”
Highlights of the webcast will include the Opening Divine Service from Christ’s Church Cathedral in Hamilton; a report from President Robert Bugbee; theme-based presentations from Rev. Dr. Michael Semmler, president of the Lutheran Church of Australia; and greetings from former presidents, partner churches and leaders of affiliated organizations. Elections and resolutions debate will also receive full coverage.
Of particular interest will be the LCC Mission Overview, Saturday June 4 at 1:30 p.m. The session will include reports of LCC’s mission activity around the world and across Canada, including first-hand reports from Rev. Dr. Leonard Harms (Southeast Asia) and Rev. Dr. Ralph Mayan (Central America), both former LCC mission executives.
News from the convention will also come from LCCInfoTweet on Twitter and www.canadianlutheran.ca with links to other information on www.lutheranchurchcanada.ca/synod2011.
