St. Paul’s Chilliwack Flood Relief Update

Chilliwack, BC – Since November 13th waves upon waves of atmospheric rain has fallen on the Canada’s West Coast with devastating consequences to many communities. The city of Chilliwack, where St. Paul’s Lutheran Church is located became an island cut off from the rest of the country. Residences of the community in the impacted area were evacuated and the agricultural community was devastated. Among those impacted are migrant workers from numerous countries who lost their jobs. Many relief organizations came into the community and along with strong community support those affected received food, and shelter and other forms of help.

St. Paul’s Lutheran Church identified a group of migrant workers from Central America and the Philippines who fell through the cracks of relief organizations helping in the area. The congregation decided to provide grocery store gift cards to these workers and their families. Lutheran Laymen’s League of Canada (LLL-C) generously provided Spanish and Tagalog language resources to accompany the gifts cards. The estimated cost of the flood relief program is $3,000.

Congregational members and individuals across LCC have thus far provided $2,000 to the flood relief program. Thanks be to God for all those who have lifted prayers, phoned or wrote letters of support and encouragement and provided so generously to help provide relief. It is all greatly appreciated and timely.

Donations can still be sent directly to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church until the flood relief funding goal is reached.
