Three-way focus for LCC’s Honduras mission
God’s blessings from mission work in Honduras are evident, according to a report from Rev. Douglas Aguilar, Lutheran Church–Canada’s missionary in Olanchito located in the north-central part of the Central American country.
The mission is home to three preaching stations, with a total of 23 baptized members, and 10 to 30 people attending regular worship services. Bible study and catechesis, evangelism, and worship services are Pastor Aguilar’s three main focuses. Sunday school and vacation Bible school are showing great promise for reaching families and children.
“I thank God for helping me and giving me the strength that I need in order to carry on my responsibility in preaching and teaching the Gospel,” says Pastor Aguilar. “Also, I thank all people who have helped me since the beginning of the mission in Olanchito.”
LCC mission executive, Rev. Leonardo Neitzel, and Iglesia Luterana Sínodo de Nicaragua (ILSN) president Rev. Luis Turcios will visit the mission in Honduras from March 29 to April 2. The purpose of their visit will be to interview candidates for the new class of seminary training scheduled to begin in Nicaragua in September and to evaluate the progress of a church building project in Olanchito.
They will also work with Rev. Edmund Auger, an LCMS pastor from the Cayman Islands to connect Pastor Aguilar with a previous seminary student from Nicaragua who is currently serving as an evangelist in Tegucigalpa, the capital city of Honduras.
